About the museums

The Cultural History Museums in Holstebro are the overall research and dissemination unit for Holstebro municipality's three cultural history museums, each of which tells in their own way about the culture that has surrounded us over many centuries.

The three museums are Holstebro Museum, Strandingsmuseum St. George and Frilandsmuseet Hjerl Hede. The three museums are set at different times in history.

• On Stranding Museum St. George You will get very close to the foaming North Sea and experience several of history's great tragedies at sea.
• On Hjerl Hede You enter the 19th century farming community in Denmark, where crafts also began to flourish.
• On Holstebro Museum You will take the tour from the first traces of humans in the area 14,000 years ago to today.

The task of the Cultural History Museums in Holstebro is to give wings to our common history and, through unique experiences, enable each of us to help shape our common future.

We do this by presenting the most important fragments of history at the three museums and on the museums' respective websites.

Here we seek to create a common overview. We draw the broad lines and, if possible, come up with proposals for a new cultural development in the area.

Our approach to the story is that it should be easy to engage with. In our presentation, we will seek to open all senses. We are happy that you will play along.
